Colman Domingo was playing dumb when recently asked about the rumors that he’d be replacing Jonathan Majors as Kang in the MCU. There was no denial on his part — he’s saying he actually has no idea if he’s signed up for the role. As I said, playing dumb. What does that tell you? (via Vanity Fair):
Do I know this to be true or not? I actually don’t know. I feel like my team doesn’t bring me something unless it’s real. So I don’t know. I could be in conversation, but I’m not sure. I would welcome a conversation around it.
“There’s hearsay, there’s conversations, but I’m not even sure because I feel like nothing comes to me until something’s real. But I’d be down with it […]
Domingo concluded by saying, “I can't tell if it's true or not."
So, it’s true.
Honestly, it’d be a real shame if Domingo wasted his wonderful acting talents (watch “Zola”) on what will probably be a 4-year commitment to Marvel movies, but, as they say, money talks.
These Domingo/Kang rumors have been swirling online since last month, that’s when Daniel Richtman posted the intel on his Patreon.
Jonathan Majors played Kang in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “Loki,” but was fired from the role last month within hours of being found guilty of misdemeanor assault and harassment. Since his exit, there was speculation that Marvel was going to drop the Kang character altogether, or simply recast. They did recently retitle the upcoming ‘Avengers: Kang Dynasty’ to just ‘Avengers 5,’ most likely a working title.
‘Avengers 5’ is set for a release date of May 1, 2026. The film still has no director, Destin Daniel Cretton decided to leave the project back in November. Considering production isn’t likely going to begin until 2025, Marvel still has some time to steer the ship in the right direction on this one.
