Leos Carax was a guest at the Doha Film Institute’s Qumra event in Qatar. The filmmaker spoke about his career, and also his total hatred of digitally shot films.
He also confirmed his upcoming film, “C’est Pas Moi,” is only 40-or-so minutes. Carax said the new film had been sparked by a request by a Paris museum to make a short self-portrait and that he ended up making it a lengthier affair. Per Deadline, he explained the project like this:
“It was supposed to be a 10 to 15-minute film. It was the first time that I edited anything myself without [Nelly Quettier]. Although I didn’t do the exhibit, I ended up making this film… it’s about 40 minutes. It’s so interesting to work alone. We did shoot for a good week with Denis [Lavant] but the rest of it is images from my archive and from other people and me with my iPhone.”
However, fear not my fellow Carax aficionados, he is also working on an actual feature-length film. Speaking to AnOther Magazine, Juliette Binoche — who collaborated with Carax on two films — recently revealed that the filmmaker “has a new project with Adam Driver.” No other details were given.
Carax tends to take years between making films. His filmography is literally composed of just six films: 1984’s “Boy Meets Girl,” 1986’s “Mauvais Sang,” 1991’s “Lovers on the Bridge,” 1999’s “Pola X,” 2012’s “Holy Motors,” and 2021’s “Annette.”
