The film, described as a “psychological thriller”, stars Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway. This is a remake of Olivier Masset-Depasse's 2018 French film of the same name, which itself was an adaptation of the 2012 novel “Behind the Hatred” by Barbara Abel.
Tackling the deteriorating friendship, due to a sudden tragedy, of two 1960s housewives, “Mother’s Instinct” sounds like wasted potential given all the talent involved. The trailer hints at a tragic domestic drama — shades of “The Son”? However, the reviews seem to be pointing more towards it being a “stylish melodrama.”
Production on the film began in May of 2022 in New Jersey and wrapped on July 1st. NEON acquired the rights to the film. It currently has no U.S. release date …
