The embargo has lifted and “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” has been slimed by critics. No surprise. 47 on Metacritic and 43% on Rotten Tomatoes. Maybe it’s time to retire this franchise.
I’ve seen it — I don’t want to review it. ‘Frozen Empire’ is actually one of the worst, most nostalgia-suffocated and useless films of the year. Nothing can save this one. Not even Bill Murray. There’s a sense of desperation to the whole thing. Everyone is trying too hard.
These reviews might also deter some audiences, who were on the fence, in buying a ticket for this one, which is currently projected for a $45 million opening weekend. Previews actually start tonight for ‘Frozen Empire.’ I’m guessing fans of the last one (“Afterlife") will want to give it a shot, but, trust me, it’s a major downgrade.
‘Frozen Empire' picks up where ‘Afterlife’ left off, now taking place in New York City, home of the first two films. Alongside Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon and Kumail Nanjiani, you have the return of original actors Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts.
