Sam Levinson is coming off his highly polarizing, and much-hated, HBO series “The Idol.” However, he’s a household name because of “Euphoria,” a TV sensation with plenty of cinematic elements to it.
Levinson’s three features as a director — “Assassination Nation,” “Another Happy Day,” and “Malcolm & Marie” — were not that well-received. He’s more of a TV phenomenon, and, despite some doubting it, a third season of “Euphoria” seems to definitely be happening.
In an interview with GQ, ‘Euphoria’ star Sydney Sweeney confirms that the show is supposed to start filming within the next two months. So, either April or May? A 2025 premiere seems to be in the plans for the show.
Last year, Levinson described “Euphoria” Season 3 as a “film noir,” with plans to explore, via Zendaya’s Rue, “what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world.”
Heidi Bivens, the costume designer for the show, told Vogue that the third season would be set approximately five years after the second, depicting the characters’ lives after their high school days.
I’m amazed that they managed to get all the talent involved to fit this third season into their schedules. Many of the show’s actors have now turned into movie stars — Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Colman Domingo, Hunter Schafer, Sydney Sweeney and Austin Abrams, to name a few.
For now, you can bask in the glorious debauchery that is Levinson’s “The Idol,” Drugs, dancing, nihilism, narcissism and lots of sex. All shot in vibrantly stylized frames — a fascinatingly self-indulgent act of pop art on the part of the showrunner.
