Did “Joker 2: Folie à Deux” test-screen? I’m usually up to date with most of the testings going on, but I didn’t hear a peep about this one having been shown.
It is possible that it was so secretive a screening that it completely bypassed me, not to mention some of the sleuths I speak to on a regular basis. Regardless, and I say this with the utmost of caution, take this reaction with a major grain of salt.
So, supposedly, a person who attended this showing of “Joker: Folie à Deux” shared their thoughts on the film, and it’s spread like wildfire all over social media.
‘Folie à Deux’ would tell its story via the perspectives of both Gaga’s Harley Quinn and Phoenix’s Joker. The film’s main plot, although currently being kept secretive, is rumored to revolve around musical therapy sessions at Arkham Asylum.
The sequel is said to be “super bloody, chaotic, aggressive, surreal”, but somehow true to its essence. Lady Gaga and Joaquin (Phoenix) are on the same level in performance, both leads […] Gaga’s work in particular is said to be “transformative.” It’s a bit longer and there are some editing and “script issues”.
This person was “mighty impressed” by what they saw. They add that parts of the film have been shot in black and white. It’s also very political as you would expect from the ‘Joker’ franchise. Gaga and Phoenix also perform songs as a duo while some tunes just have her singing solo.
The songs are a mix of standards and new material— there are a couple of Judy Garlands, including “That’s Entertainment”. However, the film isn’t all singing, it veers towards being a musical, but also isn’t fully one. A few famous DC characters appear in the sequel although they were not named.
“Joker 2: Folie à Deux” is rumored to be released in IMAX 70MM on October 4, 2024. It will most likely be premiering at the Venice Film Festival in September.
