In light of Disney CEO Bob Iger’s recent comments about scaling the company’s output, with a much-needed focus on quality over quantity, Marvel Studios has reportedly dropped their plans for “Ant-Man 4”, “Captain Marvel 3”, and “Eternals 2”– with the last film personally brought to a halt by Disney CEO Bob Iger, despite Marvel’s Kevin Feige wanting to keep it in development.
Word of this supposed shake-up comes to us from scooper Daniel Richtman who claims that these now-scrapped projects were deemed too “risky” by Iger and that there was no way forward for them.
Further, the scooper also claimed that though Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige was apparently gung-ho on pushing through with a second ‘Eternals’ film despite the poor reception of the first, he was ultimately overridden by Iger and his assumption that the sequel would be likely turn out to be another Marvel box office disaster
I don’t believe the loss of future ‘Eternals’ or ‘Captain Marvel’ movies will have Marvel fans losing any sleep over it. Even Brie Larson, in recent interviews, seemed completely over her time in the MCU. All in all, this is a good business move on the part of Iger.
“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”, “The Marvels”, and “Eternals” were critical and commercial failures. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the characters from these movies show up in the upcoming ‘Avengers’ movies, especially Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man.
