Steven Spielberg is telling Roger Friedman that 2024 will be a rare year when he has nothing in production. He said, “We’re in the discovery phase, trying to figure out what’s next.” The filmmaker was then asked about “Ready Player Two,” but he confirmed he would just be producing that one, and not directing it.
The sequel to Spielberg’s entertaining “Ready Player One,” released in 2018, has been in development since 2020. Is it even worth making another one without Spielberg? The original earned an $582.8 million globally, on a $175 million budget, so the chances of a sequel being released are still very high.
With “West Side Story” and “The Fabelmans” having been released in back-to-back years, fans have been wondering, what’s next? The “Bullitt” reboot with Bradley Cooper is one option, but Josh Singer is still in the middle of writing the screenplay.
It’s not just “Bullitt”, Spielberg also has a George Gershwin biopic in development and is developing the screenplay for Stanley Kubrick's lost film, “Napoleon,” into a 7-part limited series for HBO. Hopefully he gets a worthy filmmaker for that one.
