Neve Campbell will return as Sidney Prescott in “Scream 7.” Kevin Williamson is set to direct the film. Williamson wrote the first two ‘Scream’ movies, and the fourth one as well. His only feature directing credit is for 1999’s “Teaching Mrs. Tingle.”
Campbell shared the news on her Instagram. This comes after the actress publicly shunned the project following a low pay offer. The actress has played her character, Sidney, in the first five films of the franchise, dating back to the 1996 original directed by Wes Craven.
So, Spyglass and Paramount are paying Neve what she wanted, but only because Melissa Barrera, star of the last two films, was fired due to her pro-Palestinian posts on social media. They were desperate to find some kind of lure for this next ‘Scream’ movie and Campbell should do the trick for fans of the franchise.
It’s not just Barrera who isn’t returning. I had previously reported that Jenna Ortega attempted to get out of her contract with Spyglass for ‘Scream 7,’ and succeeded in doing so. The official excuse was Ortega couldn’t return due to a “conflict” with her schedule. Sure. This chaos then led to director Christopher Landon also exiting the sequel.
