They’re back. Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan, 21st century Godards of fart and dildo jokes, directed 2022’s “Everything Everywhere All at Once” to total domination of the 95th Oscars. The film won seven Oscars, including the Best Picture and Best Director statuettes. Ford, Wilder, Coppola, Eastwood, Spielberg, Scorsese … Scheinert/Kwan — the rich tradition of Oscar-winning filmmakers continued.
The filmmaking duo are now working on their follow-up. Universal has set up a June 12, 2026 release date for Kwan and Scheinert’s untitled new film. No other details were revealed, though Universal seems to suggest it’ll have a bigger scope, and budget, than their previous films.
Suffice to say, EEAAO was more than just a movie. It was a meme. A big, giant, fat meme that, according to its fans, had lots of heart: The hot dog fingers! Racacooine! That rock with the jiggly eye! The Bagel! Short Round! Kwan actually admitted he wrote the film as an attempt to recognize and understand his previously undiagnosed ADHD, but why should we have suffered in the process?
Okay, I’ll stop. There are readers who completely abide by EEAAO, I get it, and at least the film was striving to be original. The Daniels seem to have found a large fanbase because of it, including Steven Spielberg who called EEAAO “such a genius amazing work.” Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuaron also acknowledged the generational impact the film has had.
