Ethan Coen’s “Drive-Away Dolls” was theatrically released on Friday. The reviews that greeted it were not the most glowing — if this was a Coen Brothers release then it could qualify as the worst-reviewed film of their career (this or “The Ladykillers”).
Personally, I liked it for what it was: a down and dirty, disposable, sexually and violently over the top B-movie. It’s not a film pretending to be anything else but that. With that being said, general audiences seem to really dislike “Drive Away Dolls”. There’s no other way to put it. ‘
“Drive Away Dolls” garnered a C on CinemaScore, which is very low for the, usually, easy-to-please graders of this polling company. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a 38% audience score. Its IMDB also keeps threatening to go into the 5s.
‘Dolls’ is also not doing well at the box office. It opened in 2300 theaters and is projected to earn $2.5 million this weekend. The budget for this one couldn’t have been more than $30 million … Which of our readers actually went to see “Drive-Away Dolls” this weekend? What did you think?
