Bless, Dakota Johnson. We need more actresses like her. She, quite honestly, doesn’t seem to give a flying fig about appeasing any journalists or studio heads.
Johnson has been doing the press rounds for her disastrous “Madame Web.” The $100 million film has an atrocious 13% on Rotten Tomatoes, 27 on Metacritic, earned a mediocre C+ on CinemaScore and sits at 3.8/10 on IMDb. It’s also bombing at the box-office.
Johnson clearly knew the state that her film was in while giving these interviews. I love how she described making “Madame Web” as “absolutely psychotic,” admitting she had no idea what she was doing in front of the green screen.
Then there’s Johnson saying the film that ended up getting made wasn’t the one she had originally signed up for. “There were drastic changes,” she said of the script. “And I can’t even tell you what they were.”
No, please, do tell, Dakota.
That was one of the few instances, during her promotional rounds for the film, where she had to actually hold back her thoughts. Otherwise, it’s been a no-holds barred affair.
Johnson has also gone on to state, a few times, that, despite appearing at multiple premieres for the film, she hasn’t actually sat down to watch ”Madame Web”.
I haven’t actually seen the movie. I probably won’t. I don’t know when I’ll see it. Someday […] Did you see the movie? I haven’t. You know more about it than me.
While hosting Saturday Night Live, she uttered further dubious comments about the film, telling the live audience that “Madame Web” is like “if A.I. generated your boyfriend’s perfect movie.” What does that even mean?
This has all lent well to rumors from last year that, from the moment she had signed on to the project, Johnson was very unhappy with the creative direction of “Madame Web” and wanted out of the project.
After production had been completed on “Madame Web,” Johnson fired her CAA representation. Could be a total coincidence.
