The “Blade Runner” limited series spin-off, “Blade Runner 2099,” is still happening. Jonathan Van Tulleken has been added as director. Silka Luisa (“Shining Girls”) is still the writer, creator and showrunner.
According to Deadline, Tullkenen is coming on board to replace Jeremy Podeswa (Game of Thrones). The reason for Podeswa’s departure was noted as a “scheduling conflict” due to the WGA and SAG strikes. Tullkenen directed the first two episodes of FX’s “Shogun,” set to debut on February 27. His other credits include “The Changeling,” “Upload,” “Trust” and “Wonderdate.”
Filming on “Blade Runner 2099” is set to start in April. If you remember, this is the same series that Ridley Scott, who will executive produce, was supposed to direct. I’m not sure why he isn’t anymore, but he did state that the plan was for 10 hour-long episodes.
No casting announcements have been made. What are they waiting for? Production is supposed to begin two months from now. Plot details are also being kept under wraps — we have no idea what is 2099’s connection to the previous “Blade Runner” films. Additionally, there’s no release date.
