Bruno Dumont Set to Direct Romeo and Juliet-Inspired ‘Red Rocks’

February 12, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

As he’s about to Berlinale premiere his sci-fi feature, “The Empire”, Bruno Dumont has set up his next film.

Screen Daily reports he’ll direct the Romeo and Juliet-inspired “Red Rocks”, which will be set during the summer on the French Riviera. Production is expected to begin this year, the film will follow the “rivalry between two gangs of kids, a blend of locals and summer visitors, who compete in the perilous game of cliff jumping.”

Dumont’s has had an eccentric and genre-hopping career ever since his 1997 debut “La Vie de Jésus”, other highlights in his filmography include “Humanité,” “Li'l Quinquin” and “France.” By all account, “The Empire” was screened for last year’s Cannes, but never showed up in the lineup.
