Games Radar just named Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part II,” and with that comes an interview with the celebrated filmmaker, one in which he looks back on the year in film with much fondness.
The filmmaker admits that he still has some catching up to do, but that “it's been a great year” for cinema and, and that he’s seen a lot of stuff that “impressed” him. As for his standout films, he names five titles:
I really loved Jacques Audiard's Emilia Perez. I thought that it was very original and inspiring. Jacques Audiard's movies always give me a boost of energy, he's one of our best filmmakers. I also loved The Brutalist by director Brady Corbet and Nickel Boys [RaMell Ross] too, as well as Conclave by Edward Berger […] Oh, I also loved Queer by Luca Guadagnino which I thought was very inspiring. Daniel Craig gave an incredible performance.
As for what his next project might be, Villeneuve is still staying mum about it, but it was previously reported that it will in all likelihood be “Dune: Messiah.” Other projects he’s currently working on, that are mentioned in the interview, include “Cleopatra,” “Rendezvous With Rama,” and “Nuclear War.”
