An interesting schedule reshuffling has occurred at Warner Bros. The studio decided to delay David Robert Mitchell’s “Flowervale Street” to a March 13, 2026 date. “Final Destination 6” has now taken over Flowervale’s original May 16. 2025 slot.
Obviously, no reasons have been given for the delay, but the film did test screen a few months ago, and the version tested seemed to be “90% completed.” ‘Flowervale’ was supposed to be released next May, and with that a possible Cannes bow could have been in the equation. Not anymore.
Helmed by Warner Bros. Pictures and JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions, Mitchell’s “Flowervale Street,” starring Anne Hathaway, and Ewan McGregor, was set to open in IMAX screens and has been described as Mitchell’s most mainstream effort to date.
All we know about this one is it being an ‘80-set “thrill-ride,” shot on IMAX, and with the possible inclusion of dinosaurs to its story. The budget is said to be around $85M.
Mitchell’s last film was “Under the Silver Lake,” which premiered in competition, and to polarizing reviews, at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018. Its release was then delayed, a few times, by A24 before finally, quietly, appearing in theaters nearly a year later — it ended up grossing a little less than $50,000 domestically.
A passionate cult following ensued for “Under the Silver Lake,” with even the creation of a popular subreddit group still trying to figure out the film’s mysteries, almost six years since its Cannes premiere. The film itself was a fascinating exercise in atmosphere and tension.
In the meantime, Mitchell is supposed to direct his “It Follows” sequel, titled “They Follow,” with Maika Monroe set to return in the lead role; production will take place in early 2025.
