I can’t really talk about James Mangold’s “A Complete Unknown,” so the headline above will have to suffice. I will say that I am a Bob Dylan fan, and had some much-warranted doubts about this film, but Jay Cocks’ script is just top-notch and Chalamet …the review embargo lifts on December 10.
Mangold has become one of the more reliable “hired hands” in Hollywood. A fairly talented filmmaker who doesn’t mind adhering to the creative control that studios enforce upon him and his films. Not an “auteur” in the least bit, but with films such as “Ford V Ferrari,” “Logan” and “Cop Land” in his filmography, he’s delivered quite a few times.
Showbiz411’s Roger Friedman is reporting that Mangold met with Dylan five times to go over the story and script of “A Complete Unknown.” Yesterday, Dylan himself tweeted about ‘Complete Unknown’, and its lead actor, but he still hasn’t seen a finished cut of the film. He might be pleasantly surprised by the final result.
“A Complete Unknown,” which gets released on December 25, has one of the strongest ensembles casts of the year, they’re all great: Chalamet, Edward Norton, Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro, Boyd Holbrook, Scoot McNairy. More on this one soon.
