Whatever anticipation fans might have had with “Spider-Man 4” might now be tinged with uncertainty as the sequel seems to be encountering some creative hiccups.
Sources close to the production are telling DanielRPK that the script is being significantly rewritten, with Marvel boss Kevin Feige leading the way in creative input. The goal is to “elevate” the original script which wasn’t to Feige’s liking.
Apparently, the most recent version of the script could even be scrapped altogether. Tom Holland likes the story, but Feige doesn’t. They are “now rewriting it and changing everything. The script isn’t ready yet and won’t be for a while.”
Originally planned to begin production next summer, ‘Spider-Man 4’ might now have its shoot delayed to the fall or winter. If that turns out to be the case then it could very likely move on the release schedule, from its original July 2026 date to a December 2026 bow.
This isn’t at all surprising news, and I was hinting at it earlier in the year, but it does make sense given that ‘Spider-Man 4’ is currently supposed to be released just a week after Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” both films star Tom Holland.
Holland will be reprising his role as Spidey, and Zendaya is set to return, in a much smaller role, as MJ. It’s been rumored that Tom Hardy’s Venom will also be part of ‘Spider-Man 4,’ which has Destin Daniel Cretton (“Shang Chi) stepping in for Jon Watts, the previous director of the first Spider-Man trilogy.
The last instalment, “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” ended with the world forgetting that Peter Parker was Spidey. That memory wipe included MJ (Zendaya), who no longer knows who Peter is. The film garnered strong reviews and grossed almost $2B worldwide worldwide.
There have been rumors that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire might be back as well for this one. When recently asked, Garfield was being cagey, and refused to deny his involvement (“rumors are not unfounded”).
