“The Mummy” franchise is being rebooted, yet again. Alex Kurtzman and Tom Cruise destroyed it with their 2017 remake, and this new take is going to attempt to revive the franchise from the ground.
Lee Cronin (“Evil Dead Rise”) is writing and directing, based on the old-school story revolving around the ancient mummified undead, for New Line (via THR). Blumhouse has set it for April 17, 2026 release date.
“This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before,” Cronin tells THR. “I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening,”
The 1999 Brendan Fraser starring ‘Mummy,’ written and directed by Stephen Sommers, was itself a remake of the 1932 film of the same name. Despite mixed reviews, it was a commercial success and grossed over $416M worldwide. The film's success spawned two sequels, 2001’s “The Mummy Returns,” and 2008’s “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.”
