I’m being told Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu’s tentatively titled “Judy,” starring Tom Cruise, started filming in November, and just wrapped the first part of production last week. Shooting will resume in January. That’s great news for a potential 2025 release.
Cruise, who plays the lead role, is part of an ensemble cast that includes Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons and Sophie Wilde.
Not much is known in terms of plot details, but it’s clear that Cruise is the lead. As far as we’ve learned, Iñàrritu’s film centers “on the most powerful man in the world, who embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”
Inarritu co-wrote the script in 2023 with “Birdman” writers Nicolas Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris, along with Sabina Berman. This will be Cruise’s first film since signing with Warner Bros. Discovery in January. His last project with the studio was 2014’s “Edge of Tomorrow.”
Cruise will be having a very busy 2025 shooting the Inarritu, and promoting ‘Mission: Impossible 8.’ There’s also Christopher McQuarrie’s “Broadsword” which is currently eyeing a July/August production.
Meanwhile, Iñárritu will be directing his first film since “Bardo,” which premiered at Venice 2022 to polarizing reviews. His most notable works include “Amores Perros,” “Birdman,” “The Revenant,” “Babel,” and “21 Grams.”
