UPDATE: It’s been confirmed that Mike Flanagan’s “Clayface” will be in theaters on September 11, 2026. That’s only three weeks before “The Batman: Part II” gets released. There’s zero chance that Warner Bros keeps both of those films so close together on the schedule. Something is getting delayed, and it’s probably going to be Reeves’ ‘Batman’ sequel.
EARLIER: In September, Matt Reeves told EW that his ‘The Batman 2’ script was “finished,” and that “everyone is preparing to start production next year.” Ever since then, it’s been radio silence, and many conflicting reports about delays and cancelations have enused.
James Gunn has now given an update saying “there has yet to be a first draft of the script.” Um, didn’t Reeves tell us four months ago that the script was done? Somebody is lying.
What exactly is going on with Matt Reeves’ sequel? There have been so many delays on this one that some are starting to speculate there might be creative friction between Reeves and Gunn. It should be noted that Reeves started writing the script in 2022! That’s a Kubrickian wait.
A recent quote from THR cast further doubt on “The Batman: Part II,” which had originally set up a mid-2025 production start. Here’s what was implied …
Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson were hoping to return to ‘The Batman: Part II’ and there was hope that it could shoot sometime next year. Those hopes remain in place but nothing is close to being planned.
It’s looking like we may be headed towards yet another release delay for “The Batman: Part II,” which is currently supposed to get released on October 2, 2026. What are the odds it actually comes out on that date?
