To say that “The Brutalist” was a major step up for Brady Corbet would be an understatement. Nothing about his first two interesting but flawed features (“Vox Lux,” “Childhood of a Leader”) could prepare us for the scope, size and ambition of “The Brutalist.”
If you’re wondering how Corbet will be following up “The Brutalist” then we just got an answer for you. He’s telling The New Yorker that he’s currently writing his next film, a ‘70s set horror-western that will have a “looser style,” but will once again tackle the immigration process, this time from China to California.
I think that my immediate response to the reception of [The Brutalist] is, like, ‘Well, now you have an opportunity to make something that really pisses everyone off […] It seems like a good time to really shake viewers. I think they can handle it.
In the meantime, Corbet will have a busy next few months as he’s currently awards campaigning for “The Brutalist” which is sure to get Oscar-nominated, in numerous categories, including for Picture, Actor, Director and Screenplay.
