Lee Sung Jin has turned in the scripts for the second season of Netflix/A24’s “Beef” and they are ready to start production on this one in January. It also looks like it’s being turned into an anthology series with a completely different cast being assembled for this sophomore outing.
A promising update: James Laxton, most famous for lensing all four Barry Jenkins films, will be shooting this new season of “Beef,” which is set to star Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, Cailee Spaeny, and Youn Yuh-jung.
In this latest instalment, a young couple (Spaeny & Melton) witness an alarming fight between their boss (Isaac) and his wife (Mulligan), triggering chess moves of favors and coercion in the elitist world of a country club and its Korean billionaire owner (Youn).
Last year’s critically acclaimed and highly entertaining first season tackled a road-rage episode that lead to a sprawling, and totally unhinged, feud between a struggling contractor (Steven Yeun) and a successful entrepreneur (Ali Wong). The show went on to win eight Emmys, including for Outstanding Limited Series, the two leads, Best Directing, and more.
