What exactly is going on with Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” sequel? There’s been so many delays on this one that some are starting to wonder if there might be friction between Reeves and DCU boss James Gunn.
A recent quote from THR, casts doubt on “The Batman: Part II,” which had set up a mid-2025 production start. Here’s what was implied …
Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson were hoping to return to ‘The Batman: Part II’ and there was hope that it could shoot sometime next year. Those hopes remain in place but nothing is close to being planned.
The main reason for the potential delay seems to be that, despite work having started in early 2022, Reeves’ script just isn’t ready yet. Gunn also previously stated that Reeves hadn’t turned in the script.
Just a few days ago, when questioned about the script on Threads, and Reeves’ claim that it was nearing completion, Gunn replied, “I think that report was well-intentioned but it was mistaken. We are very much looking forward to it.”
Expected to return for the sequel are Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, and Colin Farrell. DP Greig Fraser previously confirmed his presence for the sequel, that is if production didn’t collide with his ‘Dune: Messiah” shoot, which is supposed to start production in August 2025.
It’s looking like we may be heading towards yet another delay for “The Batman: Part II.” Reeves still not having the script ready and Pattinson suddenly being busy with another film, Christopher Nolan’s next one which is set to shoot in early 2025 — doesn't bode well.
“The Batman,” released well over two years ago, is actually the last time we saw Pattinson on screen, he hasn’t starred in anything else since then. This year he was supposed to be seen in Bong Joon-ho’s “Mickey 17,” but we all know about the delays that happened on that one.
“The Batman: Part II” is currently set up for an October 2, 2026 release date.
