The 97th Academy Awards just got a little less boring.
The great Conan O’Brien has been tapped to host the upcoming Oscars ceremony. This is the first time that the late-night comedian has been tasked to emcee the event. Quite honestly, this is one of the best choices they could have done, and it also means Triumph the Insult Comic Dog could very likely be making an appearance.
O’Brien is certainly an upgrade from Jimmy Kimmel who has hosted the last two Oscar ceremonies, to mixed results. I say, let O’Brien do his thing, and give him as much stage time as possible because the last few ceremonies have been never-ending chores to sit through.
“America demanded it and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. In other news, I’m hosting the Oscars,” said O’Brien as part of the announcement.
I was cringing at the thought of the oft-rumored duo of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman hosting. They declined. Then the Academy asked the reliably hilarious John Mulany to host, and he also declined the invitation. O’Brien is an inspired choice, and should have been the number one candidate all along.
The 97th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre, and will be televised live on ABC at 7PM ET/4PM PT in more than 200 territories worldwide.
