Warner Bros recently unveiled its FYC page for awards season; you have titles such as “Dune: Part II,” “Furiosa,” “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” “The Lord of the Rings: The War of Rahim” and even “Joker: Folie a Deux.”
One film missing was Clint Eastwood’s “Juror #2.” Now, not to beat a dead horse with this film, which is actually being released in only 28 theaters this weekend, but Puck’s Matt Belloni is reporting that Warners has finally decided to give ‘Juror’ a “small awards campaign.”
No doubt, Warners must have noticed the reviews the film has been getting — 92% on RT/73 on MC — and decided to give it a go. There are a lot of people — industry and press — who are pulling for Clint when it comes to this one, especially given the unfair treatment he’s getting from Warners. ‘Juror’ is not going to expand wide, will be headed to VOD by end of November, and is barely getting promoted.
Not surprisingly, Eastwood no-showed the AFI Film Fest premiere on Sunday. Then again, we shouldn’t look too much into it as, in fairness, he’s 94. Hopefully, he has another film left in him, but the trades are currently calling ‘Juror’ his final one.
