Do you like scary movies? Of course you do.
Variety has just published its list of the “The 100 Best Horror Movies of All Time,” as selected by their pool of critics, and Tobe Hooper’s “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” tops the list. As far as these sorts of lists go, it’s pretty good. Here’s their top 20:
1) Texas Chain Saw Massacre
2) The Exorcist
3) Psycho
4) Jaws
5) Rosemary's Baby
6) Night of the Living Dead
7) Audition
8) Frankenstein (1931)
9) Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom
10) Carrie
11) Alien
12) King Kong
13) The Silence of the Lambs
14) Nosferatu (1922)
15) Don’t Look Now
16) Halloween
17) Les Diaboliques
18) The Shining
19) The Mummy (1932)
20) Get Out
Is “Get Out” really deserving of top 20 inclusion? I love the film, but not sure it should be that high. Also, is “King Kong” actually considering a horror movie? That’s news to me. The rest of the list is great — almost all of the essential titles are there.
In fact, Variety’s list shares 15 titles from my own top 20, which was published last year.
I’d probably add as honorable mentions “The Thing,” “The Omen,” “The Blair Witch Project,” “The Fly,” “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane,” “The Haunting,” “Invasion of the Body Snatchers,” “Black Sunday” and “The Others.”
What would make your list?
