France’s film classification committee has ruled that “Terrifier 3” will be stamped with an “under-18 ban” – the first ruling of its kind in France since 2006.
“Terrifier 3” is still scheduled to open on October 9, but this restrictive ruling has not been used since “Saw 3” in 2006, and the film’s French distributors are not too happy about it. Here’s a statement from Factoris Films:
We can only deplore this unexpected final decision, which will severely hamper the release of the film, eagerly awaited by tens of thousands of French viewers and scheduled for October 9 (and of course maintained)
They go on to claim that the film’s violence is “grand-guignolistic and unrealistic” and argued that “viewers will have all the distance and maturity they need to understand and appreciate this artistic approach”.
They added, “The audience for these films, even if they are teenagers, are cinephiles who are passionate and respectful of the films and the cinemas that show them… We remind you that four of our recent releases, including Terrifier 2, were forbidden to minors under 16, and none of them caused the slightest outburst in cinemas.”
On Friday, LADBible reported that the first official UK screening of “Terrifier 3” has led to people walking out in the opening scene alone, with “one person so far having been confirmed to have puked.”
To showcase just how proud ‘Terrifier 3’ producers are about shocking moviegoers, an audience reaction trailer has been released which features people exiting theaters and describing the film as disgusting, scary, depraved, and traumatizing, among other things.
‘Terrifier 3’ sees the return of Art, a killer clown, who gets resurrected by a supernatural force and terrorizes the residents of Miles County. Screening reports have become part of the film’s marketing campaign. The last ‘Terrifier’ movie had reports of people passing out, puking and crying in bathrooms. It’s a film franchise that prides itself in repulsing its audience.
