Now, THIS is the Sam Raimi I want to see.
We already know that Raimi will direct ‘Doctor Strange 3,’ but the project many are looking forward to is “Send Help,” which is being billed as Raimi’s return to the horror genre. The last horror film he’s directed is 2009’s “Drag Me To Hell.”
Here’s The InSneider, via his newsletter, reporting that Rachel McAdams will lead Raimi’s “Send Help” which will be shooting before ‘Doctor Strange 3.’ A January 2025 production start is being eyed on the film.
McAdams is a talented actress who has proven her worth in such films as “Red Eye,” “Spotlight,” “Mean Girls,” “Wedding Crashers,” “Game Night” and “Midnight in Paris.” This is inspired casting on the part of Raimi, and Sneider confirms that she was always the top choice to lead his next film,
I was the first to report on Raimi’s “Send Help,” a project, I had written about since back in October 2023. Raimi, a highly influential genre filmmaker, has only directed two movies in the last 10 years, neither of which were really in his wheelhouse.
“Send Help,” originally at Columbia Pictures, has now moved to 20th Century Studios, and is being billed as Raimi’s return to the horror genre. The film had previously been announced as an “untitled horror project” in 2019 and was described at the time as “Misery” meets “Cast Away”.
Here’s the synopsis:
The film is a comedy-adventure horror about Linda, a female employee, and her irritating boss, Bradley. On a business flight, their plane crashes on an island with only the two of them making it out alive. Linda has serious survival skills, which means she's Bradley’s only hope to stay alive.
The first draft of the script had been written by Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, who penned the Friday the 13th reboot, and I had heard, just a few months back, that a new draft was penned by ‘A Quiet Place’ duo Scott Beck and Bryan Woods.
Raimi has had a strong filmmaking career, with his signature style copied by many — I absolutely abide by “Army of Darkness,” “Evil Dead II,” “A Simple Plan,” “Darkman,” “Drag Me To Hell,” and “Spider-Man 2.” In Raimi, we trust (unless he’s doing MCU movies).
