What has Patti Jenkins (“Monster”) been up to? Her stock had risen considerably after 2017’s “Wonder Woman,” and then she decided to throw it all away by helming 2020’s misbegotten DC sequel “Wonder Woman 1984.”
Back in December 2020, Jenkins was attached to helm the ‘Star Wars’ film “Rogue Squadron,’ with a set theatrical date of December 22, 2023 stamped on the Lucasfilm calendar; The project never materialized, and was put on hold. Jenkins has gone on to pursue other projects.
It turns out that one of those projects is a live-action Lego movie. Universal Pictures has just announced three untitled live-action Lego movies from directors Jake Kasdan (“Jumanji”), Joe Cornish (“Attack the Block”), and Jenkins. It’s not surprising that Universal would want to milk the hell out of Lego, which is a lucrative brand, and Jenkins seems to be continuing on in her pursuit for IP-driven projects.
Jenkins’ Lego film is based on a script she wrote with former DC Entertainment President Geoff Johns (“Wonder Woman 1984”). Plot and casting details are currently being kept under wraps. It does look as though this will be Jenkins’ next film. She’s only directed three features in 20+ years.
