UPDATE: Almodóvar tells The Times that he hopes to shoot his next film “early next year.” So, we might be getting another film from him in 2025.
EARLIER: Coming off his Golden Lion winning “The Room Next Door,” Pedro Almodóvar, who turned 75 in September, is already prepping his next film.
In an interview with IndieWire’s Anne Thompson, Almodóvar confirms that his next film will be called “Bitter Christmas,” a return to Spanish-language cinema. He is currently “finessing the script” for the film, which will, be set in Spain.
“It will be a tragic comedy about gender,” Almodóvar says. “There are moments of comedy and moments of tragedy.”
“Bitter Christmas,” the story of a woman abandoned by her partner during Christmas time, will likely start production next year. For the time being, Almodóvar is very busy the rest of the year as he will likely be campaigning ‘The Room Next Door’ for awards contention, including and especially Oscars.
