The latest financial reporting from Forbes has Disney/Marvel’s “Ant-Man and Wasp: Quantamania” costing around $388M. Somehow, the film barely broke even, earning a net profit of $88,236.
How did Disney come away from this disaster unharmed? Well, they earned a $58M tax reduction from the UK government and the merchandise/home entertainment revenue was strong enough to warrant a break even point.
‘Quantamania,’ which is the most expensive non-Avengers movie in the MCU, was a box-office disappointment, grossing $476M worldwide. It’s currently the worst-reviewed MCU movie on Rotten Tomatoes (46% rotten).
UK's favourable tax credits is likely why Marvel Studios has been moving out of Atlanta and into the UK for the filming of most their future productions (“Fantastic Four,” “Blade,” “Vision Quest,” “Armor Wars,” “Avengers 5 and 6” and “Shang-Chi 2”).
