NEON’s exclusive six theater rollout of Palme d’Or winner, Sean Baker’s “Anora,” has turned into a major success. We’ll see how it does in the coming weeks, as it continues to expand nationwide, but these numbers are major.
Baker’s film is on its way to posting the second-best opening theater average post Covid with $105K, or an estimated $630K at six theaters. It’s currently playing to sold out shows in L.A. and NYC. This is easily the best theater average to date this year, ahead of Searchlight’s “Kinds of Kindness” which did a $75,4K opening theater average.
“Anora” is the most acclaimed film of the year — 92 on Metacritic and 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s not being overhyped either. This is truly one of the year’s best films and features an all-timer performance from Mikey Madison. At present, it’s the frontunner to win the Oscar for Best Picture.
