UPDATE: You want to know the truth? I had no idea that saying they were "formerly known" as such and such is off limits and taboo. It's news to me! I was around when Andy and Larry Wachowski directed "The Matrix." They are now known as Lily and Lana Wachowski. What’s the problem in saying that? Regardless, I’ve edited the first paragraph.
EARLIER: Lilly Wachowski last directed a film 10 years ago, 2015's “Jupiter Ascending,” and did not participate in former brother, now sister, Lana Wachowski’s “The Matrix Resurrections.”
Yes, The Wachowskis have supposedly split up, which explains why Lilly has decided to branch out into doing solo projects. Lilly has been working on the Showtime series “Work in Progress” and a movie called “Trash Mountain,” which might have been shelved, I’m not entirely sure.
Now, during an interview with Autostraddle, Lilly has revealed a whole bunch of other projects in the works, all of them trans-themed sci-fi:
So I have that. I’m involved in the adaptations of a couple of different trans books: Gretchen Felker-Martin’s “Manhunt” and Jordy Rosenberg’s “Confessions of the Fox.” I’m trying to do an adaption of this wonderful comic book called “Cosmoknights” with Emily Andras, the woman behind Wynonna Earp. It’s lesbians in space! It’s fantastic! So I’m all over the place! I’m trying to do all of it at the same time.“
Lilly and Lana Wachowski are known for big-budget and ambitious sci-fi films such as “The Matrix,” “The Matrix Reloaded,” “Cloud Atlas,” “Speed Racer” and “Jupiter Ascending.” We should also mention their 1996 debut, “Bound,” which remains one of the best neo-noirs of the ‘90s.
Ever since transitioning, and not to mention having studios lose a combined $300M+ on their last three passion projects, they’ve now decided that it’s best to remain separate and branch out into solo directing.
