It hasn’t taken long for Edward Berger to jump into franchise filmmaking. Berger directed “All Quiet on the Western Front” and this year’s acclaimed “Conclave,” and as previously reported, has been approached to helm the next Jason Bourne movie.
Matt Damon has stated that he’d be back for “one more” film in the ‘Bourne’ franchise. A Production Weekly listing now has the next instalment titled “The Bourne Dilemma,” and Berger is listed as having signed up to direct the film.
There have been five Jason Bourne movies, with the first three being, far and away, the best ones — they are Doug Liman’s “The Bourne Identity,” and Paul Greengrass’ “The Bourne Supremacy” and “The Bourne Ultimatum.”
The last two Jason Bournes— “The Bourne Legacy” (2012) and “Jason Bourne” (2016) — have not been remembered well. I wouldn’t be able to tell you what they were about or what the stakes were. They’ve been completely forgotten. Did we need a sixth movie in the franchise? Of course not. Maybe Berger can breathe some new life into the next one.
