There’s barely any interest in Ali Abassi’s “The Apprentice.” The Donald Trump film, starring Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong, only made $150k last night.
It was absolute priority for all of those involved in “The Apprentice,” including and especially Briarcliffe Entertainment, to release the film before the election. That’s why they bought out Dan Snyder’s stake in the film, overpaying him with a rumored $7M buyout, as he was blocking the film’s release.
Yes, the film has been getting a ton of publicity, but it turns out there’s not much of an audience for “The Apprentice.” Trump supporters are boycotting it, Trump haters don’t want to pay money to watch a film about the former president — what audience is left?
“The Apprentice” is playing 1750 screens this weekend, which only makes Thursday’s $150k figure look far worse. It’s not a limited release in the least bit. Fact is that it’s playing in empty theaters, and Briarcliffe, not to mention the producers, will be taking a major hit in their bank accounts because of these numbers.
