Daniel Day-Lewis, widely regarded as one of the greatest actors of all-time, is coming out of retirement after seven years of big screen inactivity. He’s set to star in Focus Features and Plan B’s upcoming film “Anemone,” which, no coincidence, happens to be the directorial debut of his son, and known painter/artist, Ronan Day-Lewis.
The film was actually co-written by Daniel Day-Lewis and Ronan Day-Lewis, and is being described as “an exploration of the intricate relationships between fathers, sons and brothers as well as the dynamics of familial bonds.” A 2025 release is being hinted at.
Daniel Day-Lewis is playing lead, his first role since 2017’s “Phantom Thread.” The rest of the cast includes Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley and Safia Oakley-Green. Ben Fordesman (“Love Lies Bleeding”) will serve as director of photography.
Back in March, filmmaker Jim Sheridan, a close friend, admitted to regularly speaking with Day-Lewis, and maintained that he was pretty sure Day-Lewis was permanently retired. Things have clearly changed since then. The three-time Oscar winner is now officially back in the game.
