A few weeks ago, Jeff Sneider reported that signs were pointing towards Josh Safdie and Adam Sandler’s Netflix project not happening. What happened? I wasn’t sure, but my source had told me to “forget about it.” It wasn’t ever going to film.
In a new interview with Variety, Josh’s brother, Benny, confirms that the Sandler project is “on pause,” which is terrible news and does confirm our worst fears about it ever happening. Benny was originally set to direct the movie with Josh, but he says he did not co-write the script and hasn’t played a meaningful part in the creative process
Last year, the film, which is set in the world of high-end sports card collecting, kept having its production delayed. It was supposed to star Sandler, Ben Affleck, Megan Thee Stallion and Steve Harvey. The script is also said to be around 340 pages long.
As you know, Benny, Josh’s brother, is not directing films with with him anymore. They’ve split up. When asked whether he’ll ever direct with Josh again, he shrugs, and tells Variety: “I don’t know.”
