Update: I’ve had it confirmed that the story is 100% false. No ‘Sicario 3’ for Denis.
Earlier: I’ve contacted Denis Villeneuve's people to get their comments on this rumor that’s been going around. I’ll update this post if they do, in fact, answer. Based on my experiences, if they don’t, then there might be something to this …
What the intel claims is that Villeneuve’s next film might be “Sicario 3,” and that the current working title is “Sicario: Capo”. Shooting is scheduled to commence this spring.
Last October, I had reported that the original cast of 2015’s “Sicario” — Benicio del Toro, Emily Blunt and Josh Brolin — would all come back for the third film. This would be an upgrade compared to the underwhelming “Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado,” which Blunt wasn’t a part of.
What we also learned is that writer-director Christopher McQuarrie — who has been attached to the hip in practically every recent Tom Cruise project — is attached, in some capacity, to “Sicario 3.” We’re not entirely sure what his role would be in the franchise, but that Taylor Sheridan is supposed to be writing the screenplay.
