Colman Domingo is really hot these days. On Tuesday, he garnered an Oscar nomination for his performance in “Rustin.” He should have instead been nominated for his gonzo work in 2020’s “Zola”!
Regardless, Domingo has landed the role of Michael Jackson’s father, Joe Jackson, in Antoine Fuqua’s biopic of the late singer. Domingo joins Michael Jackson’s real-life nephew Jaafar Jackson, who is playing his uncle, the ”King of Pop”. Three-time Oscar nominee John Logan wrote the screenplay.
Get ready for some major controversy to emerge once this one gets released in the Spring of 2025. Not just because of Michael Jackson, but Colman’s Joe Jackson was the “father from hell” — abusive, both physically and verbally, and known for his hardcore management style.
I’m honestly, guiltily, looking forward to this one. There’s no doubt in my mind that, despite all the abuse allegations against Michael Jackson, it’ll probably be a major box office hit. “Michael” (originally titled “Man in the Mirror”) is set to be theatrically released around the world on April 18, 2025.
