Guillermo Del Toro has confirmed that production has begun on his “Dr. Frankenstein,” which is being distributed by Netflix.
He posted a picture of the cast party on social media — seen above. The film will feature a talented batch of actors that includes the likes of Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Christoph Waltz, Mia Goth and Charles Dance.
Del Toro previously teamed up with Netflix for “Pinocchio” and “Cabinet of Curiosities,” and will again be working with them for this long-gestating passion project of his. I would image that “Dr. Frankenstein” will be a 2025 release. Here’s the synopsis:
Set in 19th century Eastern Europe, the film tells the story of Dr. Pretorious, who needs to track down Frankenstein's monster — who is believed to have died in a fire forty years before — in order to continue experiments on him.
“The fact is I’ve been dreaming of doing a ‘Frankenstein’ movie since I was a child,” Del Toro told ComingSoon back in 2008. Del Toro is known to have many collectibles of Boris Karloff as the monster and has been developing this project for over a decade. The closest he got to making the film was in 2018, but soon after Universal Pictures scrapped the entire thing.
