What’s next for filmmaker Debra Granik? She’s only directed three (great) films over the last 20 years — 2004’s “Down to the Bone,” 2010’s “Winter’s Bone” and 2018’s “Leave No Trace.” That’s too little for such a gifted filmmaker.
Granik is currently at Sundance, promoting her multipart doc, “Conbody VS Everybody,” which is screening in the fest’s Episodic section. She’s also hinting at what her next narrative film will be about, via Variety.
It turns out that Granik is working on an adaptation of Barbara Ehrenreich’s 2001 nonfiction book “Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America,” about the struggles faced by the country’s working poor. This aligns well with her first three films, all of which tackled a similar setting and topic.
