Remember Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck? He’s the German director behind 2006’s beyond-acclaimed “The Lives of Others,” which has become a classic of the aughts.
Things got very bumpy for von Donnersmarck when he followed that one up with his U.S. debut, 2010’s “The Tourist,” starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, which was met with vile reviews and was the brunt of many jokes.
However, somewhat under the radar, von Donnersmarck’s third film managed to give him a strong comeback, 2018’s “Never Look Away” —which was nominated for two Oscars, including Best Foreign-Language Film and for the extraordinary cinematography of Caleb Deschanel.
Von Donnersmarck will try to continue on that success as he is set to direct his first film in over six years, titled ”Vent,” and, according to Daniel Richtman, Adam Driver is in talks to star as the lead.
The film is said to revolve around a tramua-stricken agoraphobe (Driver) who attempts to solve a kidnapping in New York. He believes the victim is tapping messages to him through his apartment building air vent.
The script is by Steven Karczynski, in his feature writing debut. The film sounds very commercial, but if Driver and von Donnersmarck are signed up then maybe what Karczynski has penned is fairly substantial. We’ll see.
There are currently no details as to when this one would start production. Driver does have “Heat 2,” which Michael Mann plans to shoot this year. Other than that, I don’t believe Driver has anything else lined up, so this could potentially be his next film.
