Here is a trailer for “The Burial.” It’s one of the hotter titles screening TIFF.
“The Burial” is a upcoming courtroom drama directed by Maggie Betts and written by Doug Wright. If you‘re not familiar with Betts then get with it — her underrated 2017 lesbian nun drama “Novitiate” was quite good.
Betts’ latest is based on the true story of a lawyer and his client’s lawsuit against the Loewen funeral company. The film is adapted from a 1999 New Yorker article of the same name by Jonathan Harr.
The lead actors here are Jamie Foxx and Tommy Lee Jones. Need I say more? Especially Jones, he’s the lead of the film.
A test-screening for “The Burial” occurred in January and another one just wrapped a few nights ago. What I’m hearing is actually very positive. Jamie Foxx gives an “incredible” and “Oscar-worthy” performance. Jones is impeccable.
Alexander Payne was originally supposed to direct the film, with Harrison Ford tackling the role now tackled by Tommy Lee Jones. Principle photography on the film started in March 2022.
The film is being distributed by Amazon Studios.
