Whatever happened to John Travolta? His career seems to have gone down the dumpster fire. He’s now the king of C-movies, a throne previously held by the likes of Bruce Willis and Nicolas Cage.
His last few films barely made a dent — has anyone seen “Paradise City,” “The Poison Rose,” “Trading Paint,” “Speak Kills,” “Gotti,” “I Am Wrath,” “Life on the Line,” “Criminal Activities,” “The Forger,” “Killing Seasons”?
The latest outing from Travolta is called “Mob Land.” In the UK, it made $171 in a three theater release in late August. It’s now available to rent on VOD.
Travolta plays sheriff in a small town. His co-stars are Kevin Dillon and Stephen Dorff. “Mob Land” has 15 producer credits. The film’s been met with some rather bad reviews.
Travolta's career looks like it desperately needs another comeback. We thought it might have happened with his strong turn as OJ Simpson's lawyer, Robert Shapiro, in 2016’s “The People V. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.”
That same year he starred in Ti West’s underrated “In A Valley of Violence.” But these last seven years haven’t been kind to Travolta. Maybe he doesn’t care anymore. He seems to be living the life. Travolta is being mocked for an aerial view of his Florida home, which shows his Boeing 737 parked out front. I guess staring in mediocre movies does pay.
The real bummer of it all is that Travolta was once a major star attraction at the movies. His filmography speaks for itself: “Blow Out,” “Pulp Fiction,” “Get Shorty,” “Face/Off,” “A Civil Action,” “Saturday Night Fever,” “Grease,” “Carrie.”
