Woody Allen’s 50th film, “Coup de Chance,” is not getting good reviews in France. It currently holds a weak 2.6/5 score on AlloCine, the French equivalent of Rotten Tomatoes.
This is rather disappointing considering that “Coup de Chance” had a good reception at Venice and was called, by many critics, Allen’s best film in years.
Despite some of Allen’s last few films getting panned in the United States, he’s always gotten glowing reviews in France. Take, for example, 2016’s “Cafe Society” which earned absolute raves over there, but only sits at an okay 64 score on Metacritic.
Other films of Allen’s that were very well-received in France, but not in the States, include “Rainy Day in New York,” “Magic in the Moonlight” and “Irrational Man.”
