These days, there’s not much to get excited about when it comes to “Star Wars.” A lot of fans lost interest after Disney’s botched trilogy. There’s been in a revolt in the Galaxy.
However, I would have almost certainly been interested in seeing what Guillermo del Toro had to offer with his own vision of the Franchise … Screenwriter David Goyer confirmed on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that he wrote a “Star Wars” script that del Toro was supposed to direct back in 2019.
Lucasfilm decided to shelve the project:
“I wrote an unproduced ‘Star Wars’ movie that Guillermo del Toro was going to direct. That was about four years ago […] There was just a lot of behind stuff going on at Lucasfilm at the time but it’s a cool script. There’s a lot of cool artwork from it that was produced.”
Del Toro tweeted confirming Goyer’s statements, “True. Can’t say much. Maybe two letters ‘J’ and ‘BB’ is that three letters?”
Del Toro previously mentioned his dream “Star Wars” idea in 2015, telling Yahoo! that it was a “Godfather”-inspired saga centered around Jabba the Hutt.
Instead, we now have four projects currently in development, from filmmakers who don’t inspire as much interest as del Toro, and they include James Mangold, Dave Filoni, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Donald Glover.
Meanwhile, del Toro is currently waiting for the strike to end so that he can shoot his ‘Frankenstein’ movie with Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth and Andrew Garfield. That one has a February 2024 production date.
