Legendary filmmaker William Friedkin passed away in the summer, but not without directing one final movie — his first one since 2011’s “Killer Joe.” We now have a trailer for “The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial.”
Apparently, ‘Caine Mutiny’ is not being released in theaters, but rather premiering on Showtime television. The film premiered at Venice to positive reviews, but that wasn’t enough to warrant theatrical distribution. Neither was the fact that this was Friedkin’s final film. Would the late master have approved of this?
Guillermo del Toro was on the set of ‘Caine Mutiny’ for every single day of the shoot, as a backup filmmaker, since Friedkin couldn’t get insured on the film. Recently, del Toro went on Twitter to spread the word that Friedkin’s final film being dumped on a streamer wasn’t cool.
At 87 years of age, Friedkin shot his first film in over 10 years, adapting “The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial,” a 50-year-old scripted play written by Herman Wouk from his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. Kiefer Sutherland and Jason Clarke star.
