Paul Schrader hasn’t been shy in saying he wants to go back to the Cannes Film Festival. He hasn’t had a film inside that festival’s official lineup since 1990’s “The Comfort of Strangers.”
Well, things are aligning quite nicely right now for a potential return next May on the Croisette. Schrader has started production on “Oh, Canada,” starring Richard Gere and Jacob Elordi. The film has been SAG-AFTRA exempted for a few months now.
Schrader’s ”Oh, Canada” will be an adaptation of his late friend Russell Banks’ 2021 novel “Foregone.” The parallels between the main protagonist’s life and Schrader’s own cannot be denied. This is said to be a very grim novel about a health-stricken artist who comes to terms with his own life.
