I bow down to the church of Richard Linklater’s cinema. What a filmography! “Dazed and Confused,” the “Before” trilogy,” “Boyhood,” “The School of Rock,” “Everybody Wants Some!” “Waking Life,” “Bernie” — okay, okay, I’ll stop. I could name another half dozen titles.
All of this to say that can now add “Hit Man” to that list. The film, starring Glenn Powell, in a star-making performance, is quite possibly the best-reviewed TIFF title this year.
Linklater has been doing interviews for the film, and, speaking to NME, he’s a big “Barbie” fan. In fact, he’s seen it multiple times, citing how impressed he was by the musical numbers.
I liked the musical numbers. I liked the movie a lot. It’s worth seeing a couple times. The best thing that happened to cinema in a while is Oppenheimer and Barbie. Sends a good message. I’m glad those are doing well.
Warner Bros. is set to re-release Barbie in IMAX theaters for one week starting on September 22, 2023. The idea to re-release the film in this format is because it was originally unable to be seen this way as its meme partner in crime, “Oppenheimer”, had overtaken IMAX theaters since its release.
